As you may already have been aware -- hemorrhoids appear in numerous shapes and sizes, and how severe they are could also differ tremendously from case to case. Because of this, there is a way to differentiate between the totally different degrees of hemorrhoids. By realizing and understanding how mild or severe hemorrhoids can be, you would appreciate just how much of a distinction there may be!

Before we go into that, there are a few things that you need to be aware of though. First, different 'degrees' of hemorrhoids only apply to internal hemorrhoids (i.e. those that have formed in the rectum). External hemorrhoids (as yet) do not actually have a specific system to gauge how severe they might be, and the distinction should be quite clear.

More importantly however, there's one term that you must learn about, and that's 'prolapsed hemorrhoids'.

If you've heard of this before, great, but in case you have not then you should know that prolapsed hemorrhoids are mainly just internal hemorrhoids that have developed and been pushed out the anus itself. Because of this, they look like growths extending from the anus itself, and they can bleed and be very painful sometimes.

Anyway, now that we've covered that, here are the four degrees of internal hemorrhoids:

1. Grade 1

So far as hemorrhoids go, these are the mildest and consist of hemorrhoids that don't prolapse. That means that they remain as internal hemorrhoids but may bleed when aggravated. Generally speaking, the bulk of hemorrhoids are within this grade, and a few might even pass completely unnoticed by those who suffer from it.

2. Grade 2

Compared to Grade 1, Grade 2 hemorrhoids do prolapse, although they minimize in measurement fairly quickly afterwards. So although probably have a prolapsed hemorrhoid for a while, it is going to shrink and reduce in size until it virtually isn't there at all.

3. Grade 3

Next in line will be the type of hemorrhoids that do prolapse, but do not reduce immediately. In fact, they must be 'manually' reduced, through numerous procedures, treatments, and other things. All said and done, this is certainly pesky because it would require you to deal with the hemorrhoid as quickly as possible.

4. Grade 4

Last, but certainly not least, is the most severe kind of hemorrhoid -- and this is of the type that cannot be manually reduced. Unfortunately, this leaves you with hardly any options, and it's quite difficult... to say the least.

Do you see how the different degrees of hemorrhoids could vary greatly? Being aware of the various types of hemorrhoids that are out there, and improving your own understanding in general will certainly be of help to you as you fight your very own hemorrhoids!
